Our Mission

The Jasmine Jahanshahi Fire Safety Foundation equips students and educators with the tools and training to stay safe from fire-related emergencies worldwide.

Every year, over 300,000 college students from the United States embark on the exciting journey of studying abroad. Students prepare for new lifestyles and unfamiliar dangers, yet many overlook the risk of fire-related emergencies in countries with varying fire codes.

In April 2011, a residential fire in Paris took the lives of four exchange students and seriously injured dozens more. The apartment building was not equipped with smoke alarms or fire escapes, offering little warning to those inside.

To honor the memory of the students who perished and prevent future loss of life, the Jasmine Jahanshahi Fire Safety Foundation helps college students stay safe from fire-related emergencies during their time abroad and promotes a lifelong commitment to fire safety and prevention.

The beauty of memory
is that it cannot be killed. It can only
be reconstructed . . . through
activism, art, music and literature,
the passage of time can be reopened.

 Safety Resources

LIFE SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Your residence should be equipped with a working smoke detector on every floor. If you live above the first floor, make sure your residence has a working fire escape or obtain a portable fire escape ladder. Every home should also have a working fire extinguisher. Make sure the extinguisher is charged and you know how to use it. Our friendly guides Sparks and Snuff can help college students protect themselves and their friends from harm by sharing the basics of fire prevention.

SMOKE ALARMS

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

ESCAPE LADDERS

Life safety equipment is available from numerous manufacturers. If you are planning to purchase any of these items through Amazon, please consider using Amazon Smile and selecting the Jasmine Jahanshahi Fire Safety Foundation to support our work.
