For over 300,000 college students every year, the opportunity to study abroad is one of the greatest undertakings in their life. Students and advisers spend months preparing for new lifestyles and unfamiliar dangers. Yet one threat that is often overlooked is the risk of fire fatalities in countries where fire codes are not enforced.
In April 2011, a residential fire in Paris took the lives of four exchange students and seriously injured dozens more. Those students could have been spared with the presence of affordable, accessible equipment such as a smoke alarm and a portable fire escape ladder. Today, JUSTICE vows to reach every student studying abroad to share training and equipment so they can stay safe during their great adventure!
Please explore our free resources and share them with advisers, students, and parents. What they learn might save lives!

GET INVOLVED
There are plenty of ways to help us fulfill our mission at home and abroad! From talking to students and local colleges about including fire safety in their pre-departure preparations to distributing smoke detectors and training materials at study abroad fairs, we are looking for partners all around the world to help get the word out! We are a small team of unpaid volunteers but we span all different parts of the United States, including Florida, New York, California, Washington, and Washington D.C. If you would like to help us share our resources with students, parents, and educators, send us an email to get started!
