Farewell to Nazie Djahanshahi

Nazie & JasmineOur hearts are broken as we said farewell to our beloved president and leader, Nazie Djahanshahi. On Monday, December 19, Nazie ended her decade-long battle with cancer to be at peace with her daughter Jasmine. Though their lights were extinguished far too soon, they will be reflected in our love for them, and our efforts to continue the mission that was so close to Nazie's heart. Nazie poured her soul into establishing the Fire Safety Foundation, and we are proud to continue her work and keep her spirit alive for those who love her.

Our Mission

U.S. fire departments responded to nearly 1.6 million fire calls in 2007 that resulted in thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, and billions of dollars in property loss.

The numbers worldwide are more dramatic because many countries fail to provide even basic fire safety tools and regulations. This effects lower income neighborhoods usually inhabited by immigrants and students, including American students studying abroad.

There are also enormous indirect costs associated with fires, which may be as much as 8 to 10 times that of direct costs from fire (U.S. Fire Administration/National Fire Data Center, 2010).

To prevent the senseless loss of life from devastating fires, JUSTICE is committed to helping:

  • Young adults moving into their first homes away from home.
  • College students studying abroad in neighborhoods that lack fire safety infrastructure.
  • Low-income neighborhoods worldwide whose landlords do not provide fire safety equipment.
